Canine Receives Pro Bono Service Award from Legal Aid and Defender Association

July 18, 2008 — The Legal Aid and Defender Association (LAD) has recognized Bodman partner Daniel J. Canine with its 2008 Pro Bono Service Award.

Canine received the award at the 2008 Annual Meeting of the Oakland County Bar Association.

“Dan is a skilled attorney who is committed to the idea that all of us should have access to our justice system, even if we do not have the money to pay an attorney,” said Lynda Krupp, managing attorney of LAD’s Private Attorney Involvement Unit. “We know Dan will work to find a Bodman attorney to accept each case we send. He tackles the work with an enthusiasm that is inspirational.”

Bodman has a longstanding relationship with LAD through which firm attorneys provide free legal advice to low-income individuals. Bodman volunteers also serve at Monday morning intake sessions at LAD’s offices at which they advise indigent clients on a variety of issues including will preparation, powers of attorney and landlord-tenant disputes. Bodman has donated more attorney time to indigent clients through LAD programs than any other local law firm.

Canine is a member of Bodman’s Pro Bono Committee and serves as coordinator of assignment intake from LAD, matching incoming requests with the Bodman attorney best positioned to provide services. He has also handled numerous pro bono assignments himself and has served as an advisor at LAD’s Monday morning intake sessions.

Canine concentrates his legal practice in real estate and banking law. He represents corporations and financial institutions in a variety of real estate transactions including purchases, sales, leases, easements and lending.
