January 14, 2008 — E. William S. Shipman, one of Michigan’s leading health care attorneys and a founding member and former chair of the State Bar of Michigan’s Health Care Committee, has joined Bodman LLP as a partner practicing in the firm’s Detroit office.

Shipman will head Bodman’s Health Care Practice Group.

Shipman has more than 30 years of experience representing health care facilities and practitioners in corporate and regulatory matters with emphasis on medical staff issues, captive and alternative risk programs and regulation of hospital-physician financial relationships. He has structured and negotiated hospital mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and other business transactions, including asset and stock purchases and joint ownership agreements. He is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association and served on the board of directors of the Michigan Society of Hospital Attorneys.

With the addition of Shipman, Bodman’s health care practice, known primarily for its success representing health systems in high-profile litigation and major business transactions, will expand its focus to include a range of regulatory matters, licensure and certification issues, and captive insurance program development.

“My practice meshes extremely well with Bodman’s health care group,” Shipman said. “Bodman has a strong focus on Michigan business and an exceptional group of business lawyers with deep experience serving health care clients. I’m thrilled to be part of the team.”
