Giving Back

To Bodman attorneys, community service is not only the right thing to do in an abstract sense, it is an essential component of our commitment to excellence and a prerequisite to a full and satisfying legal career.

Bodman attorneys have a long tradition of supporting worthy organizations through donations, volunteerism and pro bono legal services. They bring the same high level of energy and expertise to their community development and pro bono efforts as they do to their professional efforts on behalf of all firm clients.

We are deeply committed to our communities. As a result, Bodman attorneys devote thousands of hours each year to charitable and community-based organizations.

Our public service commitment extends to universities, professional associations and governmental agencies. Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm appointed one of our partners to the Michigan Civil Service Commission, and another partner was chosen by his peers to serve as president of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association. Bodman partners also serve key roles with the Adrian College Board of Trustees, College for Creative Studies Board of Trustees, University of Detroit Mercy Board of Trustees, and University of Michigan Board of Regents.

Bodman supports pro bono work by all its attorneys and maintains a standing Pro Bono Committee to evaluate and recommend potential new assignments. We work closely with Community Legal Resources, an organization that matches law firms with nonprofits that serve low income Michigan communities. The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan has recognized our superior level of pro bono activity, and Community Legal Resources recently honored Bodman as its “Law Firm of the Year.” Bodman has been named to the State Bar of Michigan’s “Pro Bono Circle of Excellence” for the high level of participation of Bodman attorneys in the Firm’s pro bono efforts.
