Ms. Chandler represents clients involved in complex commercial litigation and construction matters. She has also represented clients in appeals to the Michigan Court of Appeals and the Sixth Circuit.
Ms. Chandler has successfully defended mortgage lenders in actions seeking damages under the Truth in Lending Act, the Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act and other lender liability and fraud claims in both state and federal courts.
Additionally, Ms. Chandler has represented clients, including many contractors, in state court actions, including successfully removing an improper lien filed by a subcontractor. She has written briefs for the Michigan Court of Appeals, the Michigan Supreme Court and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Ms. Chandler’s pro bono activities include representing a deaf prisoner in a lawsuit against the Michigan Department of Corrections in front of Judge Victoria Roberts of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. The Department of Corrections had refused the prisoner access to a TTY, preventing him from contacting his family or lawyers. Ms. Chandler defeated the State’s motion for summary disposition. The case was settled on the eve of trial for changes in the Department’s corrections policy and a monetary compensation. She also represented a prisoner who was improperly denied access to a Kosher diet during his incarceration.
Ms. Chandler recently was selected to attend the United Nations Durban Review Conference on behalf of United Nations Watch.
While in law school, Ms. Chandler served as an Executive Board Member of the Women’s Law Journal, the Women’s Law Association and HL Central. She also served as a legal intern for the Family Advocacy Program at Boston Medical Center and the Connecticut Civil Liberties Union. As an undergraduate, she served as an Executive Board Member for Alpha Kappa Psi, the professional business fraternity, and for the University of Michigan Dance Marathon.
