Mr. Harris assists clients in matters involving intellectual property law, including both dispute resolution and transactional work in the areas of copyright, trademark, technology transfer, trade secret, computer law, and Internet law.
In addition to trademark and copyright prosecution work before the USPTO, Mr. Harris has negotiated various forms of intellectual property agreements and transactions, including a multi-million dollar naming rights agreement for a sports arena, license agreements involving Fortune 100 software enterprises, university technology transfer agreements, publishing agreements, distribution agreements, and development agreements.
Mr. Harris also counsels clients in all aspects of information management, including (a) strategic development of records retention and destruction protocols; (b) electronic discovery solutions; and (c) data theft response.
Mr. Harris handles matters in support of the Michigan film industry and has assisted clients in associated copyright and trademark issues, licensing, merchandising, rights of publicity, as well as production agreements, contracts with authors for movie rights, and screenwriter contracts.
His litigation work frequently involves injunction proceedings relating to protection of corporate assets in the context of employee terminations, defections and other departures. Mr. Harris litigates and arbitrates complex commercial disputes nationwide. He has argued cases before the Michigan Court of Appeals and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and has briefed cases before the United States Supreme Court.
