1869 — J.F. Watson builds Cheboygan County’s courthouse at a cost of $3,000. The circuit court held its last session in the courthouse in 1899. Today, the former courthouse is a registered Michigan Historic Site and home to Bodman’s Cheboygan office.
Cheboygan was a thriving town by the time that J.F. Watson built the county courthouse. It had been nicknamed “Hub City” and promoted as a “Gateway to the North”; before receiving the nickname of “Old Rivertown.” Today, Cheboygan is best known as the gateway to Michigan’s famed inland waterway. Visitors flock to Cheboygan year round to enjoy the area’s natural beauty and many outdoor activities.
Our Cheboygan office is home to a bank regulatory practice that serves more than 90 financial institutions throughout the state and across the nation. We also provide Northern Michigan manufacturers, governmental agencies, service firms, and other businesses with expert counsel in many areas, including labor and employment, real property, corporate, and litigation.
